Mount Union
opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 44-7 win
over Ohio Northern this evening before a standing
room only crowd of 7,232 fans at Mount Union Stadium.
Greg Micheli was spectacular, completing 23 of 25
passes for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns. He
added 50 rushing yards on 6 carries.
The Raider defense was just as dominant, limiting
Northern to 176 total yards, with nearly half of
that coming in the fourth quarter. The Polar
Bears managed just 13 rushing yards in 25 attempts.
R.J. Meadows was held to 10 yards on seven carries.
Cecil Shorts caught seven passes for 108 yards,
including a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter
to give Mount Union a 17-0 halftime advantage. He
also scored on a 14-yard run in the third period.
A.J. Claycomb, Nate Kmic and Judd Lutz added
touchdowns for the Purple & White, who
accumulated 506 yards of total offense.
With the win, Mount Union improves to
2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, and will
travel to Muskingum next Saturday with kickoff set
for 1:30 p.m. at McConagha Stadium.
