Mount Union Head Coach Larry Kehres has been named the Division III American Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year for an unprecedented eighth time ('93, '96, '97, '98, '00, '01, '02, '06).  The announcement came at the annual AFCA Convention being held this week in San Antonio, TX.

The Purple Raiders finished 15-0 in 2006, winning their 18th Ohio Athletic Conference title and ninth NCAA Division III national championship.

Kehres has guided Mount Union to 17 conference crowns in 21 seasons, and has a career record of 246-20-3 (.920).  His teams are 51-8 (.864) in playoff action, including 9-1 in championship contests, and 175-11-3 (.933) in OAC play.

The AFCA Coach of the Year award is the oldest (1935) and most prestigious of all the Coach of the Year awards and is the only one chosen exclusively by the coaches themselves.
