It begins today, the quest to defend the school's ninth football national championship.  Optimism is high in Alliance, Ohio as Mount Union returns 14 starters and 47 letterwinners from last season's title winning team.

The regular season begins three weeks from today at Mount Union Stadium when the Raiders host Averett with kickoff at 1:00 p.m.  The Purple & White defeated the Cougars 64-7 in the 2006 season opener.

Your first chance to see Mount Union will come on August 25th at 10:00 a.m. when the team participates in a controlled scrimmage with Washington & Jefferson at Mount Union Stadium.  The scrimmage has become an annual event with the Presidents and is open to the public.

Mount Union was picked to win its 16th consecutive conference football championship today at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Preview, held this year in Columbus, Ohio.  The 18 time OAC football champions were the unanimous choice by all 36 media personnel covering the event and by nine of ten coaches.  Head coaches do not vote for their own team.

Capital, Ohio Northern, John Carroll and Baldwin-Wallace were tabbed to join the Purple Raiders in the top half of the conference in each poll, but not in the same order in each poll.  You can see the entire results of both polls here.
