Number one ranked Mount Union opened up a 17-0 first quarter lead on fourth ranked Capital and went on to defeat the Crusaders 38-12 this afternoon before 4,132 fans in Alliance.

 

Nate Kmic scored his first of three touchdowns on a one-yard run on the opening possession to give the Raiders a lead they would never relinquish.

 

The Purple & White added a 32-yard Mike Zimmerman field goal and a touchdown on a blocked punt by Darrell Pierce which was recovered in the endzone by Chris Kappas to open the 17-point lead.

 

Kmic added touchdown runs of 11 and 18 yards and ran for 240 yards, the fourth time in 12 starts the sophomore has rushed for more than 200 yards.  The other score came on a little razzle dazzle as Pierre Garcon threw an 18-yard scoring strike to Maxwell Smith on a wide receiver option play.

 

Rocky Pentello threw touchdown passes to Mike Niedzwiecki and Dylan Kelly to account for Capital's scoring.  Justen Stickley blocked both extra point attempts.

 

Mount Union held Capital to -31 yards rushing and 185 total yards while picking up 442 yards against the nation's 12th ranked defense.  The Purple Raiders ran for 345 as a team in the game.

 

Mount Union improves to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the OAC and takes over sole possession of first place in the conference with the win.  The Purple Raiders will host John Carroll next week with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union is ranked first in the North Region in the first Division III Football Regional Rankings released by the NCAA in 2006.  The Purple Raiders are followed by Capital, Mount St. Joseph, Concordia (WI), Augustana (IL), Wheaton (IL), Wooster, Franklin, Rockford and Baldwin-Wallace in the North Region.  You can see the NCAA's entire ranking of each region's top ten teams here.

Mount Union scored two second quarter touchdowns and kept Baldwin-Wallace out of the endzone late in the game on a first and goal from the one situation in posting a 14-0 victory before 6,121 fans at Finnie Stadium this afternoon.

 

Mike Jorris hit Pierre Garcon on a 48-yard touchdown at the 9:36 mark of the second period and Nate Kmic scored from three yards out with :15 remaining to account for all the scoring.

 

Kmic was the offensive star, rushing for 215 yards on 35 carries and catching four passes for 36 yards.  But the story of the game was defense and Mount Union's was better, with seven sacks in limiting Baldwin-Wallace to 10 rushing yards on 39 attempts.

 

The Raiders finished with 378 total yards, while the Yellow Jackets managed just 133 as the Purple & White posted their third shutout of the season.

 

Mount Union improves to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play and will entertain unbeaten Capital next week at Mount Union Stadium, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Union's JV squad spit into two teams this past Sunday and defeated two conference foes.  One team traveled to Berea and beat Baldwin-Wallace 28-24 while the other remained home and defeated Marietta 56-0.  The junior varsity finishes its schedule this Sunday afternoon at Washington & Jefferson.  You can see the entire schedule and results here.

Mount Union defeated Wilmington 65-9 this afternoon in front of 3,967 fans at Williams Stadium in Wilmington.

 

Mike Jorris and Greg Micheli combined to complete 28 of 34 passes for 427 yards and five touchdowns.  Pierre Garcon caught three passes for 116 yards and one score while Nate Kmic led the ground game with 74 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.

 

Micheli added a rushing score while Bryson Davis, J.J. Ditz, Kmic and Robert Knapp each recorded receiving scores.  Matt Kostelnik also returned a fumble 34-yards for a touchdown and recorded his second blocked punt in as many weeks.

 

The Raiders picked up 600 total yards while limiting the Quakers to 242.  The Purple & White were plus two in takeaways and are now +17 for the season.

 

Mount Union improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play with the win.  Next up is a trip Baldwin-Wallace next Saturday.  The Yellow Jackets will enter the contest 5-1 and 4-1.  Kickoff from Finnie Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.

Number one ranked Mount Union dominated ninth ranked Ohio Northern 49-7 today in front of a standing room only crowd of 6,832 fans at Mount Union Stadium.

 

Nate Kmic ran for 204 yards and scored three times while Pierre Garcon caught 10 passes for 105 yards and two scores and added a third on a 31-yard end around.

 

The Purple Raiders held Northern's highly touted R.J. Meadows to just 13 yards rushing on eight carries.  Mount Union's defense as a whole was dominant in a battle of nationally ranked defenses, limiting the Polar Bears to 106 total yards, including just 15 on the ground on 23 attempts.

 

Meanwhile, Mount Union rushed for 325 yards as a team and picked up a total of 463 yards against the second ranked defense in the nation.

 

The Raiders jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and led 21-7 at halftime before exploding for 21 third quarter points.  The Purple & White did not turn the ball over while creating four Polar Bear miscues.  Mount Union is now +15 in turnover margin on the season.

 

The Purple Raiders head back out on the road next Saturday, traveling to Wilmington to take on the Quakers.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 from Williams Stadium.

Mount Union defeated Heidelberg 58-0 this afternoon before 3,832 fans at Mount Union Stadium in a game that was delayed last night due to inclement weather.

 

Nate Kmic rushed for 126 yards and scored two first quarter touchdowns in leading the Purple Raiders to a 45-0 lead at halftime for the second consecutive week.  Terrance Morring and Pierre Garcon also each scored twice while Mike Jorris threw for two scores and Greg Micheli one.  Anthony Antonucci added a touchdown reception.

 

Mount Union finished with 557 yards of total offense while limiting the Student Princes to 123.  The Purple Raiders have now held its opponents scoreless for 10 straight quarters dating back to the second quarter vs. Otterbein.

 

Mount Union hosts Ohio Northern this Saturday in Alliance.  Both teams will enter the game 4-0 with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
