The Mount Union College Sports Information Director's office has posted game notes for this Saturday's OAC clash between the Purple Raiders and Capital Crusaders in Alliance.  You can get to them here.

Mount Union is ranked number two in this week's AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll.  The Purple Raiders received an additional first place vote following last week's 55-7 victory over Otterbein and now have seven first place votes.  Linfield has the other 33 to remain number one this week, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor, Rowan and Hardin-Simmons.  Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern fell out of the poll, while Capital and Baldwin-Wallace each received votes.  You can see the entire poll here.

Mount Union remained third in this week's D3football.com Top 25 poll.  Ohio Northern held firm in seventh place while Capital moved up one spot to number 21.  You can see the entire Top 25 here.

Mount Union defeated Otterbein 55-7 this evening at Mount Union Stadium, improving to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

 

Mike Jorris completed 16 of 25 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown while Pierre Garcon grabbed eight receptions for 182 yards and one score and added a second on an 80-yard kickoff return.  Aaron Robinson led the ground attack with 102 yards on 17 carries and  three touchdowns.

 

Matt Rees paved the way with 12 tackles while Mike Gibson added 10.  Matt Kostelnik and Justin Stickley each recorded interceptions.

 

Mount Union racked up 571 yards of total offense, while limiting the Cardinals to 247, including just 19 rushing yards on 30 attempts.

 

Mount Union hosts Capital next week in Alliance with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.  The Crusaders will enter the contest 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play following its 66-0 win over Heidelberg today.

Mount Union is ranked number two in the first AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll of 2005.  The Purple Raiders received six first place votes to sit just behind defending champion Linfield, which received the other 34 first place votes.  Mary Hardin-Baylor, Rowan and Hardin-Simmons round out the top five.  Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern is eighth while Otterbein, Capital and Baldwin-Wallace each received votes.

 

The AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll is in its seventh season in 2005.  A Board of Coaches made up of 40 AFCA-member head coaches from NCAA Division III schools around the country votes each Sunday for the top 25 teams in Division III.  You can see the entire poll here.

Mount Union dominated John Carroll in the conference opener for both teams, winning 70-0 this evening and earning the College's 600th victory of all-time.

 

Mike Jorris led the onslaught, connecting on 24 of 27 passes for 421 yards and seven touchdowns, a Purple Raider regular season record.  Scott Casto had the bulk of the receptions, totaling 10 for 238 yards and three scores.

 

Mount Union was just about flawless in leading 21-0 after one period, 42-0 at the half and 63-0 through three quarters on the way to its largest margin of victory in the modern era.

 

The Raiders finished with 687 total yards to 227 for the Blue Streaks.

 

With the win Mount Union becomes the fourth Division III school to post 600 wins and now has an overall record of 600-380-37. 

 

The Purple & White return home next week to host Otterbein who defeated Capital today 17-14.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union defeated Washington (MO) 33-7 this afternoon in front of 3,236 fans at Mount Union Stadium.  The Purple Raiders never trailed in winning its season opener for the 18th consecutive year.

 

Mike Jorris and Randy Mason combined to complete 31 of 40 passes for 297 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.  Scott Casto led the the air attack with nine catches covering 93 yards while Pierre Garcon added 71 receiving yards on seven receptions and two scores, and Scott Campbell had a touchdown catch.

 

Aaron Robinson recorded 85 rushing yards on 16 carries while Kelichi Ibeh added 38 yards on nine rushes and a touchdown.

 

Mike Zimmerman kicked two field goals, including a career long from 40 yards as Mount Union out gained Washington 439 yards to 182.

 

Mike Gibbons paved the way defensively with a game high 11 tackles while Ryan Fehl and Ross Watson each recorded an interception.

 

Following a bye next week Mount Union opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on September 17th when it travels to John Carroll for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
