Mount Union remained sixth in this week's D3football.com Top 25 poll.  Ohio Northern is ranked 19th, while Capital is 21st and John Carroll 25th.  You can see the entire Top 25 here.

Mount Union scored two second half touchdowns to defeat Baldwin-Wallace 17-3 this afternoon before 5,672 fans at Mount Union Stadium.

 

Following a 3-3 halftime tie, Nate Kmic scored from six yards out midway through the third quarter and Mike Jorris hit Scott Casto on a 42-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter for the victory.

 

Jorris completed six of 14 passes for 110 yards, while Casto caught three passes for 73 yards.  Aaron Robinson rushed for 109 yards on 23 carries, his sixth consecutive 100-yard rushing effort.

 

Mike Gibbons recorded a game high 13 tackles, while Buddy Wolf finished with 11.  Justen Stickley had two sacks and Ross Watson picked off his seventh pass of the season.

 

The Purple Raiders improved to 7-1 overall, 6-1 in OAC play and will travel to Muskingum next week.  The Muskies defeated Heidelberg 49-9 today and will enter the contest 2-6 overall, 2-5 in conference play.  Kickoff from McConagha Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Union is ranked fourth in the North Region in the first Division III Football Regional Rankings released by the NCAA in 2005.  The Purple Raiders sit behind North Central (IL), Wabash and Ohio Northern, and above Augustana (IL), John Carroll, Mount St. Joseph, Carthage, Otterbein and Capital in the North Region.  You can see the NCAA's entire ranking of each region's top ten teams here.

The Mount Union JV football team improved to 4-0 with a victory over the Pittsburgh Blue Storm.  The Blue Storm consist of first and second year Junior College and Community College students in the Pittsburgh area.  I've also updated the junior varsity statistics.  You can see it all here.

Ohio Northern defeated Mount Union 21-14 this afternoon to break a string of 99 consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference wins for the Purple Raiders, and 110 straight regular season victories overall.  Mount Union's last regular season loss came in 1994 to Baldwin-Wallace by the final of 23-10.

 

R.J. Meadows scored three first half touchdowns and the Polar Bears stopped the Raiders on the goal line at the end of the second quarter to hold a 21-7 halftime lead.

 

Mount Union's only first half score came on a blocked punt by Justin Stickley that was returned 42 yards for a touchdown by Matt Kostelnik.  The Raiders added a touchdown on a 35-yard pass on fourth and eight from Mike Jorris to Maxwell Smith with 2:24 remaining in the game, but Jorris was sacked at midfield on the game's final play, ending Mount Union's last attempt to tie the contest.

 

The win for Ohio Northern breaks a sting of 22 straight losses to Mount Union.  The Polar Bears last win in the series came in 1984 by the final of 14-9.

 

The Purple Raiders get back in action next Saturday when they host Baldwin-Wallace at Mount Union Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Union scored 59 unanswered points Saturday night in defeating Marietta 59-7 at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta.

 

Following a 100-yard fumble return for a score by the Pioneers, the Raiders reeled off 59 straight points in winning for the 110th consecutive regular season game.

 

Mike Jorris threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores.  Aaron Robinson had a career high 147 rushing yards on 18 carries and one touchdown, while Brandon Boehm led the air attack with a personal best in receptions and yards with seven catches for 123 yards and one touchdown.

 

Mount Union set a school record with 755 offensive yards and 40 first downs, averaging 8.1 yards per play, while limiting Marietta to just 39 yards on 46 plays, an average of 0.8 yards per attempt.  The Pioneers were limited to -17 yards rushing on 26 attempts. 

 

The Purple & White improved to 6-0 overall, 5-0 in conference play and will return home to host Ohio Northern next week.  The Polar Bears defeated Otterbein Saturday and will enter the contest 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.  Kickoff from Mount Union Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Union improved to 5-0 on the season, 4-0 in conference play, with a 41-6 victory at Wilmington this afternoon. 

 

Mike Jorris threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns, while Aaron Robinson matched a career high with 137 rushing yards and added two scores.  Scott Casto and Pierre Garcon combined for 19 receptions covering 252 yards and three touchdowns.  Defensively, Mike Gibbons led the way with 11 tackles.

 

The Purple Raiders generated 633 yards of total offense, compared to 189 for the Quakers. 

 

Mount Union travels to Marietta next week with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. at Don Drumm Stadium.  The Pioneers will enter the contest 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play following its 41-10 loss to Capital today.

Mount Union scored a touchdown on three consecutive offensive plays early in the fourth quarter to erase a three-point Capital lead in defeating the Crusaders 42-24 this afternoon before 5,122 fans at Mount Union Stadium.

 

Mike Jorris connected with Pierre Garcon on an 83-yard score with 14:48 to play to take a 21-17 lead.  Following a Cameron Rose interception, Kelechi Ibeh scampered 49 yards, making it 28-17 with 13:45 left.  Then, after Scott Casto's 32-yard punt return to the Capital 25, Aaron Robinson went the distance, increasing the advantage to 35-17 with 12:35 remaining in the game.  It's the first time in the history of Mount Union football the Purple Raiders scored on three straight offensive plays.

 

Jorris connected on 16 of 26 passes for 301 yards and two scores, both to Garcon, who caught nine passes for 214 yards.  Robinson led the ground attack with 109 yards and three touchdowns, while Ross Watson intercepted three passes and now has six on the season.

 

Mount Union outgained Capital 477 yards to 275, averaging 7.2 yards per play to the Crusaders 3.4.

 

The Purple & White improved to 4-0 overall, 3-0 in conference play, with the win and will travel to Wilmington next week to take on the Quakers.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
