Mount Union remains the number one team in this week's D3football.com Top 25 poll, picking up 19 of a possible 25 first place votes.  Capital fell to 16th, Baldwin-Wallace dropped to 20th and Ohio Northern moved into the Top 25 at number 21.  The entire Top 25 is here.

Mount Union defeated Baldwin-Wallace 24-7 this afternoon in front of 6,885 fans at Finnie Stadium in Berea.  The victory, coupled with Capital's loss to Ohio Northern, gives the Purple Raiders at least a share of their 13th consecutive

Ohio Athletic Conference championship and 16th overall.

 

On a day when high wind conditions made throwing the ball next to impossible, Mount Union's ground game produced 314 yards while limiting the Yellow Jackets to 118.

 

Rick Ciccone led the rushing effort with 147 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns, while Jeff Strauch added 108 yards on 27 attempts.  Zac Bruney carried the ball six times for 53 yards and Aaron Robinson had one rush for six yards.

 

The Purple Raiders third touchdown came defensively, when Ross Watson intercepted a pass and handed off to Wade Kirk before being tackled, who in turn raced 60 yards to pay dirt.  Chad Teague added a field goal.

 

Mount Union moves to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play with the win.  The Purple Raiders return home next week to host Muskingum, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. from Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union received 38 of 40 first-place votes and is again the number one team in this week's AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll.  Capital jumped three spots to number 10, while Baldwin-Wallace fell to 15th and Ohio Northern received votes.  You can see the entire poll here.

Mount Union's junior varsity football team defeated Washington & Jefferson 55-0 this evening at Mount Union Stadium, improving to 7-0 on the year.  You can see their entire schedule and results here.

Mount Union defeated Ohio Northern 41-27 yesterday after scoring the game's final 21 points.  The Purple Raiders trailed midway through the third quarter 27-20, marking the first time this season the were behind in a game.

 

Zac Bruney threw for 327 yards, completing 17 of 27 passes and four touchdowns.  Jason Cavell caught five passes for a career best 184 yards and three scores, including a 90-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter, giving Mount Union the lead for good.  Rick Ciccone carried the ball 35 times for 148 yards, both personal bests.  He scored one rushing and one receiving touchdown, totaling five catches for 53 yards in the contest.

 

The Purple Raiders improve to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the OAC, and have taken over sole possession of first place in the conference with the win.  Mount Union will travel to Berea to take on Baldwin-Wallace next Saturday with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Finnie Stadium.

Mount Union defeated Marietta this afternoon 57-0 in front of 2,712 fans at Mount Union Stadium to claim its 100th consecutive regular season victory.  The Purple Raiders last regular season loss came 10 years ago yesterday, during the 1994 season, 23-10 to Baldwin-Wallace.

 

Zac Bruney threw a career personal best six touchdown passes, completing 20 of 26 passes for 252 yards.  Drew Hanley (2), Joe Bugara (2), Jason Cavell and Rick Ciccone each caught aerial scores, while Kelechi Ibeh and Jeff Berdysz added touchdown runs and Chad Teague booted a 22-yard field goal.

 

Mount Union totaled 634 yards of offense, while limiting Marietta to 123 total yards, including just 23 on the ground in 30 attempts.

 

The Purple Raiders improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play with the win.  Mount Union will travel to Ada, Ohio to take on Ohio Northern next Saturday with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. from Dial-Roberson Stadium.

Mount Union defeated Wilmington this afternoon 49-7 in front of 3,932 fans at Mount Union Stadium to improve to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

 

Zac Bruney matched a career personal best with four touchdown passes as the senior quarterback completed 17 of 24 passes for 229 yards in just one half of play.  Scott Casto, Jeff Strauch, Aaron Robinson and Rick Ciccone all were on the receiving end of touchdown passes, while Robinson added a rushing score as well.  Jason Cavell returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown and Shaun Spisak picked up a blocked field goal attempt by Wade Kirk and returned it 16 yards for a score.

 

On the year, the Purple Raiders have scored four defensive and three special teams touchdowns.  Mount Union will host Marietta next Saturday with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.

The start time for Sunday's junior varsity football contest between the Purple Raiders and Niagra Community College has been pushed back one hour.  Kickoff will be 4:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.  The JV football squad is off to a 4-0 start this season, and has not lost a game since 1999.  You can see their entire 2004 schedule and results here.

Mount Union was very impressive today in defeating Capital 49-7 before a record crowd of 3,649 fans at Bernlohr Stadium in Bexley, Ohio.

 

The Purple Raiders dominated the game defensively, posting eight quarterback sacks and limiting the Crusaders to just two net rushing yards on 31 attempts.  For the game, Mount Union amassed 529 yards of total offense, including 368 on the ground, to 235 yards for Capital.

 

Mount Union improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the victory over previously unbeaten Capital.  The Raiders return home next Saturday to host Wilmington, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
