More than half of those voting (57%) in our MTU Opinion Poll think Mount Union's week 2 contest with
Baldwin-Wallace will be the most difficult this season. Our new poll
asks your thoughts about the opener vs. Wis-Whitewater.
Mount Union assistant football coach Jeff Wojtowicz has been named as the
NCAA Division III 2002 Special Teams Coach of the Year by The American
Football Monthly, a magazine for football coaches. Wojtowicz is
entering his 17th year as a football coach for the Purple Raiders.
The Mount Union College Sports Information Director's office has previewed
the Purple Raiders football season opener against Wis-Whitewater. You can

Mount Union's Purple team beat the White 17-10 this afternoon in the annual
Purple and White scrimmage at Mount Union Stadium. The White squad led
10-3 at halftime, at which point most of this year's projected starters where finished for the
afternoon.
The Purple roster included Zac
Bruney (QB), Rick Ciccone (HB), Brian Miller (FB), Randell Knapp (WR), Jason
Cavell (WR), Antoine Dillard (DT), Jason McElhaney (DE), Anthony Frate (LB)
and Mike Miller (CB).
The White roster included Jesse
Burghardt (QB), Jeff Strauch (HB), Jason Pugh (FB), Nick Sirianni (WR),
Scott Casto (WR), Josh Ludwig (DT), Shaun Spisak (LB), Matt Caponi (FS), and
Ross Watson (CB).
Among the highlights where a
57-yard pass from Bruney that Knapp caught over his shoulder at the two-yard
line, a seven-yard touchdown pass from Burghardt to Pugh, and a 42-yard
field goal by Chad Teague that was right down the middle and had better than
ten yards to spare.
Your first chance to see the 2003
Mount Union football team will be Saturday, August 23rd when the Raiders hold
their annual Purple & White scrimmage at Mount Union Stadium. The
scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
Mount Union will take part in a controlled scrimmage with Washington &
Jefferson on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. in Washington (PA). If
you are thinking of attending this scrimmage it is advised that you call the
Mount Union athletic office that day to make sure there have not been any
changes to the schedule.

has reported that the College Sports Television (CSTV) network will televise
Mount Union's football game at John Carroll on October 18th. At this
point that is the only Division III contest scheduled to be broadcast by the
network in 2003, although the schedule is subject to change.
ESPN maintains the rights to the
Stagg Bowl and will televise Stagg Bowl XXXI on December 20th live from
Salem (VA), likely on ESPN2.

Mount Union was picked to finish first in the Ohio Athletic Conference in
both the coaches and media polls taken today at the annual OAC Football Preview
Luncheon in Independence, Ohio. The Purple Raiders were tabbed number
one by nine of 10 head coaches and 34 of 35 media personnel covering the
event. Baldwin-Wallace received
the remaining first-place vote and finished second in each
poll. You can see the
