When a student athlete commits to play football at Mount Union, or any D3 college, there is no "Letter of Intent" signed. Coaches wait for prospective student athletes to submit an application to the school. Sometimes coaches are not really sure, even after applications have been made, as to who will be part of their new football class until practice begins in August.
That being said, The Repository has reported of two Stark County high school football players that have announced their intention to enroll at Mount Union College and play football for the Purple Raiders.
The first is Jesse Liston, a 6-1, 240, defensive tackle from Massillon Washington High School. The second is Jared Gulling, a 5-10, 170, wide receiver from North Canton Hoover High School. Gulling will join his father, Paul, the current receivers coach at Mount Union. Paul Gulling was a three-time First-Team All-OAC wide receiver for the Purple Raiders (1977-79) and was named to the Little All-American squad following his senior season in 1979.
