has reported that the NCAA’s Division III football committee has recommended
a change to the NCAA playoffs that won’t change the way teams are selected
but should change the way the brackets look.
In previous years, high seeds
have gone to unbeaten teams, regardless of strength of schedule. This
year, if the change is approved by the Division III championships committee
this summer, that could change. The recommended addition is that the
committee be allowed to consider the record of a team and conference in
postseason play from previous years as a seeding criteria.
This criteria change won't help
a team in the situation of Ohio Northern last year get selected for the
playoffs, but it might get them a home game if they were in the field of 28.
The final start time on Mount Union's 2002 football schedule has been
confirmed. The Purple Raiders will kickoff at 2:00 p.m. when they
visit Columbus to take on the Capital Crusaders on October 26th. You
can see the entire 2002 football schedule
here.
I've updated the Purple Raider's 2002 football schedule to include most of
the away game's start times. Mount Union will open up at Wis-Whitewater
with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff, Alliance time, on September 7th. Ohio
Athletic Conference play begins two weeks later with a 6:30 p.m. contest at
Baldwin-Wallace. The rest of the 2002 slate is scheduled to begin at
the usual 1:30 p.m. afternoon time with the exception of the Capital contest
on October 26th. We do not have a confirmed start time for that game
in Columbus yet.
Mount Union assistant football coach Jeff Wojtowicz has been named the
Northeastern Ohio Assistant Coach of the Year. He will be honored at
the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation
scholarship banquet April 29 at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven.
Wojtowicz has been a member of the Purple Raiders football coaching staff
the past 16 years and is currently defensive secondary coach. During
his playing career at Mount Union he was a three-year letterman as a
defensive back from 1981-83, and earned honorable mention All-OAC honors in
1983. Congratulations Woj!
