Congratulations to Matt LaVerde, who has been selected as the 2000-01 male recipient of the Cyde A. Lamb Scholar-Athlete Award Scholarship.  This award goes to an individual that participates for at least two years in an Ohio Athletic Conference sponsored sport, is a senior, has a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and conducts himself in a sportsmanlike manner that has brought credit to himself and his institution.  He will receive a postgraduate academic scholarship.

LaVerde, from Oil City, PA, was a defensive leader as an outside linebacker for the Purple Raiders and was selected to the All-OAC first-team last season. He recorded 81 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, had one quarterback sack, four interceptions and scored two touchdowns in his senior season.

If you haven't done so yet, be sure to give us your opinion in our May MTU Opinion Poll.  So far over 70% of those voting say they would rather Mount Union Stadium keep natural grass rather than change to an artificial grass field.  Give us your opinion in the poll located in the purple menu.

No one knew what to expect in 1994 following Mount Union's first football national championship the year before.  But the Purple Raiders put everyone on notice of what was to come by surviving a regular season conference loss to share the OAC title, qualify for the playoffs and shock the number one ranked team in the nation on its field.  You can go back to that exciting season here.

One slight adjustment has been made to Mount Union's 2001 football schedule.  The week ten game at Heidelberg is now scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. rather than 1:30 p.m. as was originally reported by the Ohio Athletic Conference.

We have also added the 2001 Junior Varsity football schedule.  All JV contests are scheduled for either Monday afternoon or Monday evening this season.  Six of the eight games will be played at Mount Union Stadium.  You can see the full junior varsity schedule here.

Happy Birthday to us!  Today marks the one year anniversary of this site going live on the world wide web. Thank you to the 140,000 people that have viewed the site.  It averaged 400 hits per day over the past year, almost double that during the season.   The highest traffic day in the first year came December 9th, the day Mount Union beat Widener in the semi-finals when there were 1,387 hits.  Thanks for all the nice comments we've received over the last year as well!
