Congratulations to Matt LaVerde, who has been selected as the 2000-01 male recipient of
the Cyde A. Lamb Scholar-Athlete Award Scholarship. This award goes to an individual
that participates for at least two years in an Ohio Athletic Conference sponsored sport,
is a senior, has a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and conducts himself in a
sportsmanlike manner that has brought credit to himself and his institution. He will
receive a postgraduate academic scholarship.
LaVerde, from Oil City, PA, was a defensive
leader as an outside linebacker for the Purple Raiders and was selected to the All-OAC
first-team last season. He recorded 81 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, had one
quarterback sack, four interceptions and scored two touchdowns in his senior season.

No one knew what to expect in 1994 following Mount Union's first football national
championship the year before. But the Purple Raiders put everyone on notice of what
was to come by surviving a regular season conference loss to share the OAC title, qualify
for the playoffs and shock the number one ranked team in the nation on its field.
You can go back to that exciting season here.

One slight adjustment has been made to Mount Union's 2001 football schedule. The
week ten game at Heidelberg is now scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. rather than 1:30 p.m.
as was originally reported by the Ohio Athletic Conference.
We have also added the 2001 Junior Varsity
football schedule. All JV contests are scheduled for either Monday afternoon or
Monday evening this season. Six of the eight games will be played at Mount Union
Stadium. You can see the full junior varsity schedule here.
