Today is the final day of voting in our June MTU Opinion Poll.
Washington & Jefferson has a slight edge over both Wooster and Wittenberg this
morning. Look for the final results of this poll and a new question tomorrow.
I've just returned from a trip to San Antonio, Texas, the home of, among other
things, the Alamo... and our friends from Trinity University, whom Mount Union defeated in
the 1998 semi-finals 34-29 at Mount Union Stadium.
I see Mount Union has released the names of
two more high school seniors that will attend the college and play football this
fall. Our 2001 Recruiting Class page now totals 66 names. You
can see it here.
With one week remaining in our June MTU Opinion Poll, Wooster has a
slight lead over Wittenberg and Washington & Jefferson as to who you would like to see
Mount Union play in the 2002 opener. If you have a question you would like asked in
our poll, please email
me the question and answer choices and we'll consider it. The
current poll will run through the end of June.

College football preview magazines have started hitting the news stands. Preview
Sports College Football selected Mount Union as its preseason number one Division III
football team, followed by Widener, Hardin-Simmons, St. John's, Wittenberg, Pacific
Lutheran, Wis-Stout, Central, Springfield and Bethel rounding out its top ten. About
Mount Union, they say:
"The Purple Raiders, kings of D-III
ball for the past decade, lost some key pieces from last season's national championship
squad. Still, with 10 starters back, including All-American running back Chuck
Moore, the cupboard is hardly bare."
The magazine also named senior running back
Chuck Moore and senior offensive lineman Ed Malone to its Division III Preseason
All-American Team.
We've added another name to our 2001 Recruiting Class page, making the
total now 63 new Purple Raiders we have listed. You can read the entire list here.
In two months, the Mount Union football team will be in preseason training camp preparing
to defend its Ohio Athletic Conference championship and NCAA Division III national
championship.
I've posted our 2001 Purple Raider Season
Preview, complete with pictures of a lot of the players you'll see on the field
this year. You can get to it here.
We're at the midway point of the month and so far our June MTU Opinion Poll
has Wooster leading a close race to our question that asks, "Who would you like
to see Mount Union play in the 2002 opener?" There are a number of votes
for "other" as well. If you voted that way, email me
who you would like to see the Purple Raiders open with and I'll also mention those results
at the end of the month.
Also, look for our 2001 football season
preview here soon.
I've put together a Match-up Fact Sheet that provides information about
opponents on Mount Union's 2001 Schedule, such as game date, time and location, along with
information about the series between the two teams. You can see it here.

We've changed the main page to have more of a 2001 look, adding pictures of some of the
Purple Raiders we'll see in the upcoming season. Thanks once again to Bill Gough
for all the photos!

The final results of our May MTU Opinion Poll tell us you overwhelmingly
want to see natural grass remain at Mount Union Stadium. Of the 202 voters, 70%
favor real grass, 29% would like to see an artificial grass surface and 1% said it didn't
matter.
Our June question asks, "Who would
you like to see Mount Union play in the 2002 opener?" You can cast your
vote now.
