Now that Division I "signing day" has passed for high school senior football players, rumors will start flying as to who might be coming to Mount Union.  It's much harder to follow this process in Division III because there is no actual “signing day” at the DIII level.  When a student athlete commits to play football at Mount Union, or any other DIII college, there is no "letter of intent" signed.  Coaches wait for prospective student athletes to submit an application to the school.  Sometimes coaches are not really sure, even after applications have been made, as to who will show up until practice actually begins in August.

As was our policy last year, any tips we receive about players attending Mount Union will not be announced here until they can be confirmed by me at the school.  This info is appreciated, but if it is not posted immediately please don't take it that I don't believe it.  I owe it to every visitor of this site to be 100% accurate. As we get confirmation of players that will be attending Mount Union, we will compile a list similar to the one we did last year.  Thanks for your patience.  I know everyone is hungry for information about the Purple Raiders in the off season.

As the XFL (that doesn't stand for anything) season is set to begin tomorrow night, I just wanted to recognize Mount Union football standout Jim Ballard and his participation with the Orlando Rage in the league.  Ballard was a fifth round pick (36th overall).  Orlando opens its season tomorrow night against the Chicago Enforcers.  We are being told the outcome has not been decided already :)  Good luck Jim!

Congratulations to Mount Union Head Football Coach Larry Kehres.  This past week he was named the 2000 Ohio College Football Coach of the Year by the Columbus Dispatch.  Kehres received 18 of 34 first-place votes and totaled 73 points to outdistance Gary Pinkel (Toledo University) by 41 points.
