In its most impressive performance of the season, Mount Union traveled to Ada, Ohio and put a whooping on host Ohio Northern to the tune of 24 points. The Purple Raiders led 21-0 at the half, and 28-17 early in the fourth quarter before 20 straight points put the game away. Look for our game recap tomorrow.

The tailgate party before the game this Saturday in Ada vs. Ohio Northern will start between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. There is a grassy parking lot beyond the field where everyone will congregate. Purple flags, balloons and the usual fare will identify Raider fans. Pot luck as always and bring a friend!

Two weeks into the season, Mount Union finds itself in a familiar spot atop the Ohio Athletic Conference statistical board. The Purple Raiders have the number one ranked offense in the OAC, averaging 517.5 yards per game and the number one ranked defense, allowing 243.5 ypg. John Carroll ranks third and seventh respectively in those two categories.

Jackie Rychel tells me this week is a big
tailgate week! Parents and fans should come as early as 10:30 a.m. to get a good
spot behind the covered stands in the parking lot to the west of the stadium. Pot
luck as usual. There is always lots of food so bring your friends. Look for
flags, balloons and cheerleaders.

The Purple Raiders JV squad welcomed Baldwin-Wallace in fine fashion this evening at Mount Union Stadium, defeating the visitors 53-10. I stayed just long enough to see the Yellow Jackets finally crack the end zone with seven seconds left in the game.

I've posted our story recapping the Purple Raiders opening season victory over the Gators. You can get to it here.
One of the most telling quotes I've read about the game came from Allegheny defensive tackle Joe Rossi, who said, "It was frustrating. We were throwing everything we had at them and they were still getting 8 and 9 yards a pop." That's a very accurate way of describing just how dominant the Purple Raiders were.

Mount Union opened the season with a bang this afternoon with a very impressive victory over Allegheny, dominating every facet of the game. Look for our recap tomorrow.
Also, congratulations to Erik Raeburn on Coe's victory over William Penn 31-19 in his debut as head coach of the Kohawks!
