Thanks to everyone that has emailed with the nice comments about the site! It is very much appreciated! I will be updating the Links page as soon as I get the chance, including adding a really nice College Football Stat site. Look for it soon. We will also get the Playoff Recaps done soon! And I have so many great pictures from Bill Gough, I'm thinking of adding a picture page... they just keep getting better and better, and the ones he sent of the Mount Union - Augustana playoff game are truly wonderful! Look for them added soon in some way!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope this holiday weekend is a safe and enjoyable one for you and your loved ones.
I've posted our 2000 Mount Union Season Preview. It's in the Headlines section in the purple menu. If it doesn't get you ready for football, I don't know what will! Once, again, thanks to Bill Gough for the wonderful pictures.

Larry Faith has taken a look back at the 1950 Mount Union season, one in which the Purple Raiders defeated both Akron and Kent State. It's titled 1950 Remembered and is in the Memories section.
I've also made some additions to the right menu, including adding Adam Marino's photo.

This one is real special! The picture to the left is of Mount Union Stadium on it's first birthday in 1914! Click on the small image to see a larger picture. Thanks very much to Dick Ross for this photo!
There are a number of new links in the Division III Football section in the left menu. You can now get your playoff recaps in Playoff History, see all the schools that have been in the playoffs in School Participation, read what went on in Division III before the national championships started Prior to 1973, along with your Stagg Bowl History and list of players of the year in the Gagliardi Trophy section.

I've posted another story in the Memories section in the left menu, this one a recap of a special day in Mount Union history... October 16, 1999. The story is titled Sweetest Day, and was written by Dick Ross. Thanks again also to Bill Gough for capturing the day in pictures.

Congratulations to two football players that are excelling in other athletics at Mount Union. Chuck Moore, from Mogadore, and Mike Miller, of Cuyahoga Falls, were two of seven Purple Raider baseball players to earn All-OAC status this spring!
I've received a number of good suggestions for the site, including adding a guest page so past players, alumni and others can post their email addresses for others to use as a tool to get back in touch, a section with directions to the road games for the Raiders this season and possibly doing features on different football players. We'll be working on these things and more in the near future!
Thanks to Bill Gough for the two new pictures of RB Chuck Moore and LB Jesse Pearson in the right menu!

Three people have joined the site today...
Larry Faith has been following Mount Union football since the 1950s, and will provide interesting look-backs into Purple Raider football history. His first story is titled Raider Reflections and can be found in the Memories section in the left menu.
Dick Ross has also agreed to post his very interesting game recaps here. For those of you that have been lucky enough to get his past stories, you know how entertaining his style of writing is to read! Dick is a 1966 graduate of Mount Union.
Another Mount Grad, Bill Gough, from the class of '71, will also be adding gameday pictures to help bring the site to life!
Thanks to everyone for the help!
Here is a picture of the game program from the only meeting on the gridiron between Mount Union College and Ohio State University, played in 1930. You can see a larger picture of the program by clicking on the image to the right. This item sold at ebay today for $202.50. It sold 70-years ago on gameday for .25 cents. Thanks to Dick Ross for sending me the picture.

I've finished the Results by Year section in the left menu. You can now go there to see the scores of all the games in Mount Union football history separated into decades.
Two seasons jumped out at me as I was putting these pages together...
The first was 1940, when the Raiders went 0-8-1 and scored only seven points all season... Yikes!
The other was 1905. The Raiders were 0-6 and had been outscored 254-0 as they approached the final two games of the season, a home and home series with Hiram. It seems some things never change, and beating up on Hiram took place at the start of the century, even in that kind of year! Not only did Mount score it's first points of the season, it swept the two-game series 10-5 and 22-0 to finish the year 2-6. Wonder if Hiram had a "honorary" offensive coordinator for the first series back then :)

Two quarterbacks and another tall defensive back have announced their intentions to play football at Mount Union this fall. Jamie Robert Allmon, a defensive back, and Brett Marshall, a quarterback/kicker, are from Massillon Washington High School, while quarterback/outside linebacker Paul Swingle is from Gahanna High School.
We have also learned that George Momirovic, a 6-5, 320, offensive lineman from East Canton, has announced his plans to become a Purple Raider. Momirovic comes with a pretty impressive resume, which includes first-team All-Stark County honors this past season. Thanks to John and Mark for the heads-up on that one!
Looks like ex-Alliance native and one-time Purple Raider linebacker, Mark Black, now on the coaching staff in Massillon, is having a positive impact on where those kids want to play college ball, as we now know of at least three Tigers coming to Mount this year!
You can see our entire football recruiting list here.

It's been a great day here at MtUnionFootball.com, thanks for all the great emails! It is very much appreciated. I'm working on finishing all the "Results by Year" for the Purple Raiders, and then we'll dive into recapping all the playoff years...
If only Woolf hadn't slipped on the ice in '85, and if Kring could have played in the final in '86, and if they would have called it a touchdown in '90 (Like they should have!), and if there was one less turnover in the freezing cold in '92, and we came up one point shy in '94, and OT in '99... how many Stagg Bowls may Mount Union have been to? Read all about it here soon!

Welcome to our new home! Thanks for stopping by. We've added a new section at the bottom of the left menu titled Division III Football. We list all the Stagg Bowl winners and also the past Gagliardi Trophy winners, two of which are our very own Jim Ballard and Bill Borchert. We will also dig in depth into the history of the Division III Playoffs soon, and we will be adding an intro page in the next day or so.
Posted by Ric 5/15/00Purple Raiders running back Chuck Moore had a productive spring playing center field and hitting .366 for the Mount Union baseball team. He also tied for the team lead in homers with six and batted in 38 runs, leading the Raiders to a 23-15-1 mark. The junior carries a 3.681 GPA and earned 2000 GTE second team College Division IV Baseball Team honors. Congratulations Chuck! Posted by Ric 5/14/00The Purple Raiders have landed another tall defensive back... Jason Jarvis, a 6-1, 191, DB from Massillon Washington High School has announced his decision to attend Mount Union College and play football for the Raiders this fall. Jarvis, a Northeast Inland District honorable-mention selection and All-Stark County football pick as a senior for the Tigers in 1999, is the second DB taller than 6'0 to commit to MUC, joining Robert Jones, a 6-1, 165, DB from Jefferson High School. You can see the entire list of recruits we have here. There are more links now working in the left menu. If you click on Raider Records, you'll be able to find out all you want to know about the best performances ever by the Purple and White. I've also included playoff records and all the Stagg Bowl records held by Mount Union. And also, you can now read, or re-read, as the case may be, about the Purple Raiders four Stagg Bowl titles as I've posted a story and the game stats for each of the four wins in the National Championships section in the left menu. Posted by Ric 5/12/00I have great news for this site today! We are not quite a week old and today we secured plans for an official domain for this site.
