The Raiders wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, moving 50 yards in five plays on their opening possession to grab a 7-0 lead. Nate Kmic scored his first of two first quarter touchdowns on a 10-yard run to complete the drive just over three minutes into the contest. Kmic later scored on a 36-yard run with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter, making it 21-0. He finished with 126 rushing yards in less than a half's work and has now scored six touchdowns on the young season. Pierre Garcon
also scored twice in the first half, on a 30-yard pass from Greg Micheli on
Mount Union's second possession, and on an 11-yard strike from Mike Jorris,
making it 28-0 early in the second quarter. The Purple & White added two more touchdowns before intermission. Terrance Morring scored on a 38-yard jaunt and Anthony Antonucci caught a nine-yard pass from Jorris. Mike Zimmerman booted a 30-yard field goal as time ran out on the first half giving Mount Union a 45-0 halftime lead for the second consecutive week. At the half, Mount Union had 313 of total offense compared to just 35 for Heidelberg. The Purple & White averaged 9.5 yards per play while Heidelberg managed one yard per play in the first two quarters. The Raiders
added ten more points in the third period. Their final touchdown of
the day came on Morring's second score, a 27-yard run on the initial
possession of the second half. He finished with 74 yards rushing on
just four carries. Matthew Barge got a lot of work over the remaining
two quarters, rushing for a career high 108 yards on 15 carries. The Purple & White seemed content on moving the ball between the 20's over the remainder of the game and getting work for the field goal unit. Dan Diemert booted a 33-yard field goal in the third stanza and Zimmerman added an 18 yarder in the fourth quarter to make the final 58-0. Jorris finished 10 of 17 for 118 yards and two scores. Micheli was a perfect 10 for 10, covering 138 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Patrick McCullough and Matt Rees each had five tackles, while Jonathan Andrews, Matt Kostelnik, Parr and Justen Stickley each produced sacks. Nick Barren recorded his first interception of the season as each team finished with one turnover. The Purple Raiders are +11 in turnover ratio on the season.
Mount Union finished with 557 yards while limiting Heidelberg to just 123. It's the third time in four games the Raiders held their opponent to under 200 total yards. The Purple & White have not allowed an opponent to score in ten straight quarters going back to the second quarter of the Otterbein game.
With the win, Mount Union improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference action. Ohio Northern visits Alliance next Saturday and many people had this game circled from the moment the schedule was released because it was the Polar Bears that ended the Purple Raiders long regular season winning streak last year at Mount Union Stadium. Ohio Northern will also enter the contest 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play..

before 3,832 fans at Mount Union Stadium in the 2006 home opener. The
game was delayed from the night before due to inclement weather in the Alliance area.
Garcon led all receivers with four catches covering 65 yards in limited
playing time. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the year.
