Mount Union dominant in conference win over Marietta Mount Union set a school record with 755 offensive yards and 40 first downs in defeating Marietta 59-7 Saturday evening at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta. The Purple Raiders averaged 8.1 yards per play while limiting the Pioneers to just 39 total yards on 46 plays (0.8 yards per play) and minus 17 yards rushing in the contest. Mount Union reeled off 59 straight points after Marietta opened the scoring with a defensive touchdown late in the first quarter. Raider running back Terrance Morring appeared to have broken the plain of the goal line from a yard out before fumbling, but the ball was grabbed out of the air by Pioneer defensive back Shawn Ellies and returned 100 yards for a touchdown. The play stalled a drive that started on the Mount Union two-yard line and set the tone for the rest of the contest as every yard picked up on the drive was on the ground. The Raiders rushed for a season high 388 yards on 61 attempts (0.0 ypr) in the game. Mount Union evened the game less than two minutes later when Nate Kmic scampered in from nine-yards out for his first career touchdown. The freshman capped a five-play, 43-yard drive that he set up with a 47-yard kickoff return. The Raiders added three second quarter touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead at intermission. Mike Jorris threw touchdown passes to Brandon Boehm and Scott Casto, and added an 18-yard run for a score in the final minute of the half. It was the first rushing touchdown of the junior's career and he'd added a second later in the game. Jorris finished 18 of 28 for 279 yards and three touchdowns passing, while rushing six times for 23 yards and two scores. Boehm led all receivers with a personal best in receptions and yards, catching seven passes for 123 yards and one touchdown. Mount Union added three scores in the third period on Aaron Robinson's four-yard run, Jorris' one-yard dive and an 11-yard pass from Jorris to Casto. Robinson finished with a personal best 147 rushing yards on 18 carries and one score, while Casto caught six passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. The Purple & While rounded out the scoring in the fourth stanza on a 50-yard catch and run by Kelechi Ibeh from Randy Mason and a 22-yard field goal by Mike Zimmerman. Ibeh finished with a combined 103 rushing/receiving yards and the touchdown. Defensively, Greg Brauer led the team with six tackles, while Matt Kostelnik added five and Mike Gibbons had four. The 39 total yards allowed by the defense is a season low. The Purple Raiders have now won 127 of the last 130 games they've played and return home to host Ohio Northern next week. The Polar Bears enter the contest 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Last year the Purple Raiders defeated Ohio Northern 41-27 in Ada, Ohio, and have won 22 straight in the series dating back to the Polar Bears last win in 1984. Overall, Mount Union leads in the series 34-12-1. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. from Mount Union Stadium.
